Art
Philosophy
It doesn’t matter what your social-economic status is, who you are or your ability, everyone can gain enjoyment and satisfaction from creating art. Art gives us opportunities to learn about various cultural groups past and present that have made an impact on art throughout history. It reaches across social boundaries and unites us as one people, with an appreciation for different cultures and workmanship. Art is a vehicle to which you can express yourself, your feelings and thoughts. Art is imagination and creativity. Art is essential to our well-being.

Bio: I was born in Fort Dix, NJ. My father served in the Army so we traveled a lot to places like: France, Germany, Hawaii, Kansas, South Carolina and Georgia. I graduated from Oxford High School in 1979, married Randy Cassity, also from Oxford, in 1980 and moved to Singapore. Randy worked in the oil industry. We had three children while living abroad: Jared, Audrey and Sarah. We spent 15 years in Southeast Asia, including Bangkok, Thailand and Jakarta, Indonesia. I loved traveling and experiencing the different cultures that I encountered. It was there, that I believe, I found my love for the arts.
My children and I returned to Oxford, Alabama in 1995. I continued my college education at Jacksonville State University graduating in 2000 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career at Stemley Bridge Elementary School teaching kindergarten my first year. In 2001, I began teaching 2nd grade at Oxford Elementary School and later fourth grade. I received my MS in Elementary Education in 2005. I started teaching “art on a cart” in 2019. I traveled to all three elementary schools that year: De’Armanville, Oxford Elementary and Coldwater Elementary. In 2020, I found a permanent home at Coldwater Elementary School teaching art and health. I enjoy what I do and love working with my students. I’m living my best life!
In the next 3-5 years, I look to retire from teaching and continue doing art from home. I plan to travel, to visit friends and family and to visit places that I have always longed to see.
